We started the day with a climb out of Big Sur. At a vista point we met a kind local and his sweet dog. We talked bike touring and he gave us the scoop on the area. He talked about one day cycling New Zealand and following the fruit harvest. We hope he makes his trip one day.
We are beginning to experience an earlier fog burn off and subsequent afternoon sunny skies. The warmer temps and amazing tailwind made for an easy riding afternoon. We stopped along our ride when we heard the calling of elephant seals which were sunning themselves and fighting on the beach next to our route. They were huge! And kinda gross.
Morro Bay is dominated by a large monolithic rock. After riding 95 miles, we set up camp at the Morro Bay State park. We dined at the nearby marina cafe under the comfort of heat lamps. The exquisite super burritos and equally massive dessert portions initiated food comas.
