We said goodbye to our Swiss friend, Andy, who had more ambitious plans for the day than our eighty some planned miles. A light misting rain followed us out of Mackerricher State Park as we pedaled along the park bike trail. We didn't make it far, DJ caught some shrapnel in his rear tire, so we needed to fix the flat.
Majority of the day was spent in Mendocino County on very curvy, up and down, type roads. We had a tailwind all day and beautiful vistas along the way.
Lunch stop was in Point Arena at a cafe where we scarfed our food and napped outside the establishment. (side note: when we stop for lunch, it's like an explosion of power bar wrappers, phone chargers, and misc. layers...first question is, "where's the restroom?l)
We crossed over into Sonoma County, which had slightly less steep climbs along the rolling hills. The landscape was made up of cow pastures along the sea cliffs.
There were a few killer climbs into Salt Pointe State Park, where we would camp for the night. The campground was a different terrain than usual. It was pretty and secluded.....it might also be a place for potential wind energy. Extra stakes were used to keep the tent down from blowing away. We went to sleep early after riding 85 miles for the day.
