Day 10 - Thursday, July 5, 2012 - Heavy sighs, from sore thighs

A cool mist dampened our morning as we left Brookings, Oregon. It would only take us 5 miles to pass into California. This area near the border of both states is known for Easter lilies, so we had an opportunity to see quite a few farms on our ride.

We tackled our largest climb of the trip, about 1200 feet. We descended near the coast and into the Redwood forest. Amazing! We were greeted by Paul Bunyan and his blue ox, Babe, among the trees.

Looking for food for the evening and the following day, our options were limited. According to our map, there should have been a grocery store and other amenities in Klamath. Instead, we could only find a gas station/casino/food mart and a random emu. We improvised and made it work.

We clocked 66 miles for the day. The last ten miles were spent traveling in awe of the amazing trees in Prairie Creek State Park. We set up camp and went for a hike to see the "Big Tree." The pictures we took in no way do these impressive trees justice. We look forward to hiking around tomorrow.
